The remediation case study reports were prepared in accordance with a FRTR guide for documenting site cleanups: The Guide to Documenting and Managing Cost and Performance Information for Remediation Projects, EPA 542-B-98-007, October 1998. Use of a standard format helps increase the comparability of cost and performance information among technologies and projects. Order/Download guidance document
As of July 2004, a total of 361 remedial case study reports have been made available including nearly 40 different technologies for treating soil and groundwater contamination as well as containment technologies and media/debris treatment technologies.

The site characterization and monitoring case studies document experiences and lessons learned on field demonstrations and full-scale uses of innovative technologies for site characterization and monitoring. The case studies cover the full range of activities used to conduct site characterization and monitoring, with most case studies focused on technologies used in the investigation stage of cleanup.
As of July 2004, a substantial number of case study reports – 144 total – have been compiled by the FRTR.

Remediation technology assessment reports provide an analysis of remedial technologies based on their use at numerous hazardous waste cleanup sites. These reports contain information about the application of a specific technology, such as bioremediation, or about a common contaminant, such as arsenic, and provide summary findings based on practical field experience – allowing comparisons to be made across remediation sites. The technology assessment reports vary in scope and may include a discussion of selection considerations, implementation considerations, or extend to design parameters for the technology. Reports providing only information on technology descriptions, literature surveys, application surveys, regulatory assessments, or presumptive remedies are not included.
As of July 2004, a total of 54 remediation technology assessment reports have been made available.

The long-term monitoring and/or optimization case reports document activities at single and at multiple cleanup sites involving systematic monitoring and evaluation to detect and respond to changes in performance to remediation systems. The reports describe long-term management/optimization efforts that have been either implemented or evaluated, and cover techniques such as groundwater monitoring program evaluation, plume capture evaluation, and hydraulic optimization. System optimization offers benefits that include enhanced protectiveness, reduced cost, shortened cleanup times, and the increased likelihood of site closeout.
As of July 2004, a total of 73 long-term monitoring/optimization case studies have been compiled on the Remediation Optimization section of the FRTR web site.
